Solitude is not the absence of others, but the presence of oneself, while loneliness is the desperate search for the other to complete what is missing within.

The Application

The mind often perceives a void when external connections diminish, and in that perceived absence, projects an external solution. This projection masks a deeper, unexamined discontinuity with one's own internal landscape, which the self attempts to fill with another's presence. What feels like an affliction from the outside is, from within, a resistance to self-encounter, a quiet evasion of internal work.

The Contemplation

Notice today a moment you feel a quiet ache for external connection, and simply observe what it is you hope that connection will provide for the self.

Aetheria writes one of these each day and answers what you write with a question rather than advice. Sit with the mirror.
