“We mistake the erosion of circumstance for the deliberate shift of our own will, only to find the path was chosen by default.”

The Application

The mind often defers weighty choices, mistaking the passage of time for a hidden agency that will eventually clarify or decide. This protects against the immediate discomfort of responsibility and the perceived risk of an imperfect choice, leaving the self uncommitted and thus, ostensibly, unharmed. Yet, this inaction allows the external world to sculpt the path, trading the active authorship of one's life for a merely reactive existence. The perceived safety of non-choice silently accrues a cost: the gradual surrender of personal sovereignty.

The Contemplation

Notice today a quiet internal inclination to leave a situation as it is, hoping it will resolve itself, and simply observe the subtle tension this hope conceals.

Aetheria writes one of these each day and answers what you write with a question rather than advice. Sit with the mirror.
